Photography v Catering. Eureka moment

As it's a bit dreich here on the East, I've been tidying up my blog this morning - a long overdue chore which I've thoroughly enjoyed! A eureka minute made me realise that I love wedding catering and wedding photography in equal measure, and that actually my style of both is quite similar - relaxed, casual, generous and a lot removed from formal.

I think I love the photography side partly because I just love being 'in on' the detail - capturing those often unnoticed bits of the day that actually sum up the spirit of the occasion.

And I love the catering side I think because it's so nurturing. I like to surprise guests and bride alike with food that is homely and generous and beautiful to look at, in that generous - help yourself, there's plenty - kind of way. I like buffets to have a bit of a wow. I like oodles of fresh herbs and rices and pulses and delicious local produce from local suppliers. I always ask - 'if you were having everyone round for dinner, what would you cook. What would you most enjoy?' That is what I like to capture when I'm cooking. But with bells on. I don't really have set menus because that's not what my bride peoples look for. I like that. And I love puddings.
